1. Introduction to Certification
The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) is the designated national standardization body for the Republic of South Africa. Responsible for developing, promoting and maintaining South African National Standards and ensuring improved quality of goods, products and services. SABS provides conformity assessment services and assists with matters within the scope of this mandate.
In 2016, the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) engaged with its stakeholders regarding the cost and economic impact of the SABS Certificate of Compliant Practice. That same year, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) and the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to ensure that electronic products entering South Africa's borders would be screened to prevent low quality products from entering our market.

3. Certification category
There are two types of certification in South Africa:
1. The first application is to use the test report issued by the "authorized and included A-Lab testing laboratory" to apply for the SABS EMC CoC certificate.
2. The second application is to obtain the test report issued by the ILAC accredited laboratory and apply for the SABS EMC CoC certificate.
4. Product Range
Electronic and electrical product certification is divided into two categories: product certification and system certification, while SABS product certification mainly includes the following eight categories: chemical products, biological products, fiber products and clothing, mechanical products, safety equipment, electrical products, civil engineering and construction, and automobiles product. Among them, the construction materials and products involved are: stone products, concrete products, roofing materials, cement, lime, cement mixture, natural building stones, safety glass, steel structures, wood and wood products, bricks, tiles, paints, Coatings, sealants, etc.
